Speak Up and Reach Out!
Volunteerism in the Special Needs Community
My personal platform stems from my relationship with my oldest sister, Rosie. Rosie has an intellectual deficit. I remember growing up with Rosie and watching her struggle through the public school system, extracurricular activities, and social settings in general. It is through this experience that I have decided to dedicate my service to the special needs community. I am a Special Olympics Coach, Spread the Word to End the Word Advocate, and a volunteer at numerous special needs community education classes. While I attended, Gustavus Adolphus College from 2007 to 2011, I worked with Gustie Buddies as a mentor to a child in the St. Peter area with special needs.
My passion and desire to see those with special needs receive equality in all aspects of life is the forefront of my life. It is my personal goal, passion and privilege to see the lives of those with developmental disabilities positively impacted through volunteerism.
